I don’t know where Charleston is. But the best fishing anywhere in Illinois, in my opinion, is the Illinois river for Sauger (Walleye’s kissing cousin) or the Chain in Northern Illinois.
Although I understand the Kankakee is pretty good water to fish to and people are saying Vermillion lake (Don’t know where that is) is getting better.
Go to website called Mike Jackson Outdoors. Don’t know the address. All during the fishing season, he has the hotspots in Illinois to fish. Also http://www.cjsmithresort.com has some info on fishing the chain.
